Capstone project

Educational

Sometimes called a senior project or final project. Distinct from a thesis by the practical, applied focus on integration rather than original research.

A capstone project is a substantial piece of work undertaken near the end of a degree programme. It typically requires the student to integrate skills from across the programme — methodology, domain knowledge, communication, project management — and produce a tangible deliverable that demonstrates readiness for entry-level work in the field.

The practical value of a capstone for a CV is high when the project is publicly defensible: a real client, a real brief, a real deliverable that can be linked to. The value is lower when the capstone exists only as an internal academic artefact.

On Ewance

Ewance challenges work alongside capstone projects rather than replacing them. A student running a capstone with their professor can ship adjacent challenges on Ewance to deepen specific skills the capstone touches, with each deepening producing a separate verifiable credential. The capstone goes on the transcript; the Ewance credentials go on every recruiter-readable surface.
