Diagnose Modern Transport-Protocol Performance for an OTT Streamer
Overview
What this challenge is about.
Receive the current delivery architecture (HTTP/2 origin + CDN), 4 weeks of Conviva-style QoE (quality of experience) metrics, and access to a synthetic-client harness (Linux + Chromium with network-condition emulation). Design an A/B experiment comparing HTTP/2-over-TCP vs. HTTP/3-over-QUIC across 4 cellular profiles (good 4G, weak 4G, lossy 5G, congested 5G) and 3 video qualities. Run 200 sessions per cell of the experiment, measure startup time, rebuffer ratio, and bitrate-adaptation churn. Analyze the results statistically (mean + p95 + confidence intervals), separate the HTTP/3 effect from confounders (different TLS handshake, different congestion-control default). Deliver the harness scripts, the raw + analyzed dataset, a 10-page measurement report, and a CDN-RFP appendix.
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
Quantify HTTP/3+QUIC's benefit over HTTP/2+TCP for OTT video delivery across realistic cellular conditions, and recommend a CDN-stack direction for 2026.
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Design a controlled measurement of modern transport protocols
- Distinguish the protocol effect from confounders (TLS, congestion control)
- Apply statistical rigor (means, p95, confidence intervals) to network experiments
- Translate measurement results into a procurement-grade recommendation
