Overview
What this challenge is about.
Author a metric catalog defining each of ~15 metrics with formula, data source, refresh cadence, and known caveats (e.g. lead-time-for-changes excludes WIP-flagged PRs to avoid double-counting). Build a small Python data pipeline pulling from GitHub Actions, Linear, PagerDuty, and a quarterly developer-satisfaction survey, landing into Postgres. Build a Metabase dashboard with 5 tabs (DORA, flow, SPACE-S, SPACE-C, drilldown-per-team) usable by both engineering managers and the CTO. Pilot with 3 teams for 2 weeks, capture feedback, and author a 2-page rollout plan covering data ownership, dashboard maintenance, and anti-pattern guardrails (e.g. don't compare teams head-to-head). Deliver metric catalog, pipeline code, Metabase dashboard, pilot notes, and rollout plan.
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
Build an engineering-analytics dashboard covering DORA + flow + SPACE metrics for an 18-team org, with guardrails against misuse.
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Define an engineering metric catalog that survives org-wide review
- Build an ELT pipeline from multiple SaaS sources into a warehouse
- Design a dashboard that informs without becoming a leaderboard
- Plan rollout with anti-pattern guardrails that prevent metric misuse
