Overview
What this challenge is about.
Read the 6 reporting queries and capture their EXPLAIN ANALYZE output on staging (a refresh of prod, around 90M rows). Identify the minimum set of indexes that improves all 6 by at least 5x without regressing write performance. Use partial and covering indexes where appropriate. Validate on staging and document the maintenance window. Deliver an EXPLAIN-before/after report, the index DDL, a 4-page rationale memo, and a CONCURRENT-ly-built deployment plan.
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
Add the smallest set of PostgreSQL indexes that makes 6 reporting queries at least 5x faster on a 90M-row table without regressing writes or locking the table.
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Read EXPLAIN ANALYZE on real workloads, not toy examples
- Choose partial and covering indexes when appropriate
- Quantify write-performance regression alongside read wins
- Plan a CONCURRENT-ly index build inside a maintenance window
