Can a HoloLens 2 augmented-reality overlay let a surgeon accurately plan hip-implant placement on a three-dimensional scan, and is there a defensible European regulatory pathway to turn it into a product?
This is not a coding exercise. It is the work a software engineer does between a Jira ticket and a merged PR. That distinction matters to every hiring manager who has seen candidates solve LeetCode problems and none who have shipped production code under real constraints.
When you finish, you will have something most graduates do not: a real-world deliverable, verified by Ewance, that you can show to a hiring manager and say "I did this. Here is the proof."
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Render volumetric medical scan data as a stable, spatially-anchored hologram on the HoloLens 2
- Design six-degrees-of-freedom hand interactions that let a non-technical clinician position an implant accurately and without fatigue
- Run a small structured usability-and-accuracy study and report results against a known ground truth
- Map a software prototype to the correct European Union Medical Device Regulation risk class and the standards that apply
- Communicate engineering and regulatory trade-offs to a mixed clinical and business audience
