Overview
What this challenge is about.
Receive 5 synthetic DICOM hip-anatomy datasets (no patient data; generated from public anatomical atlases) and CAD models for 3 implant SKUs. Build a HoloLens 2 prototype that loads the DICOM volume, presents a 3D rendering, lets the surgeon position the implant with 6-DOF (degrees-of-freedom) gestures, and exports the planned placement as a JSON file. Run a structured task study with 3 orthopedic registrars on 4 cases each (12 plans). Deliver: prototype build + repo, 10-page validation study, and a 6-page regulatory-pathway brief (EU MDR Class IIb pathway, not a clearance submission).
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
Prototype a HoloLens 2 AR surgical-planning overlay validated on synthetic hip anatomy, with a defensible EU MDR regulatory-pathway brief.
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Render and manipulate volumetric medical data in AR
- Implement 6-DOF gesture interactions for surgical-style planning
- Validate an AR prototype with domain experts on synthetic anatomy
- Translate AR-prototype claims into a defensible regulatory pathway
