Analysis
Data Protection Impact Assessment for a Smart City IoT Project
Overview
What this challenge is about.
Your task is to produce a full DPIA report for the smart parking pilot. You must describe the processing, assess necessity and proportionality, identify risks to data subjects, and propose mitigation measures. Deliver a DPIA report (15-20 pages) including a data flow diagram, a risk matrix, and a decision on whether to proceed. Success means demonstrating compliance with GDPR Article 35 and providing a defensible basis for the project.
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
How can the city implement a smart parking system that respects data protection principles while achieving operational efficiency?
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Understand the DPIA process and when it is mandatory
- Apply the principles of data protection by design and by default
- Identify and assess privacy risks in IoT systems
- Develop mitigation strategies for high-risk processing
- Communicate complex legal and technical issues to non-experts
