Design a Farm-to-Garment Traceability System for GreenWeave Cotton

What this challenge is about.
Design a Farm-to-Garment Traceability System for GreenWeave Cotton. Intermediate challenge in design. Designing real products under real constraints, earn a ...
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
Design a blockchain-based traceability system that lets GreenWeave prove its cotton is authentically organic and fairly traded from farm to garment, while remaining usable by low-tech farmers and affordable for the brand.
This is not a design exercise. It is the work a product designer does between a brief and a shipped interface. That distinction matters to every hiring manager who has seen candidates redesign Spotify's homepage and none who have worked under real product constraints.
When you finish, you will have something most graduates do not: a real-world deliverable, verified by Ewance, that you can show to a hiring manager and say "I did this. Here is the proof."
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Match blockchain architecture choices (public vs. permissioned, on-chain vs. off-chain storage) to real cost, trust, and connectivity constraints
- Translate a physical multi-party supply chain into a minimal, verifiable on-chain data model
- Analyze stakeholder incentives and design a governance model that motivates honest participation
- Design inclusive low-tech data capture for users without smartphones or reliable internet
- Connect product claims to consumer-facing verification that builds rather than assumes trust

Blockchain Solutions Strategist
This challenge mirrors the core of the role: choosing the right ledger architecture for a real business constraint and defending it to non-technical leadership. You leave able to translate a messy physical process into a verifiable on-chain design with a clear cost story.

Supply Chain Traceability Lead
Brands and manufacturers increasingly need provable chain-of-custody for sustainability claims. By mapping data to each handoff and closing documented authenticity gaps, you practice exactly the chain-of-custody design these traceability programs depend on.

Web3 Product Designer
Decentralized products live or die on usability for non-crypto users. Designing text-message data entry for farmers and a scan-to-verify app for shoppers builds the rare skill of making blockchain invisible and trustworthy at the edges.
