Overview
What this challenge is about.
Diagnose the Levers of Control at a Stockholm Fintech. Expert-level challenge in research. Conducting rigorous research on real questions, earn a blockchain-...
The Brief
What you'll do, and what you'll demonstrate.
Is the fintech's management control system balanced across Simons' four levers, and if not, how should it be rebalanced given its regulatory environment, growth stage, and strategy?
This is not a research exercise. It is the work a researcher does to produce findings that withstand scrutiny. That distinction matters to every hiring manager who has seen candidates summarize papers and none who have produced original findings under expert review.
When you finish, you will have something most graduates do not: a real-world deliverable, verified by Ewance, that you can show to a hiring manager and say "I did this. Here is the proof."
Earning criteria — what you'll demonstrate
- Apply Simons' Levers of Control framework to classify real-world organizational control signals
- Build and code a triangulated body of qualitative evidence from publicly observable sources
- Use contingency theory to interpret why a given control balance fits (or misfits) a firm's context
- Design specific, feasible control-system interventions grounded in theory
- Practice research ethics: informed consent, anonymity, and transparent, citation-disciplined craft

Careers
Career paths this challenge builds toward
Completing this challenge demonstrates skills that transfer directly to these roles:
Management Control Researcher
This challenge mirrors real management-control research: gathering field evidence, coding it to a theoretical framework, and diagnosing how an organization steers behaviour. You leave able to defend a control diagnosis with triangulated evidence and theory.

Internal Controls & Governance Analyst
Diagnosing whether boundary and diagnostic systems are over- or under-weighted is the core of governance analysis in regulated firms. You practice spotting control gaps and recommending pilotable fixes that fit the firm's regulatory and growth context.

Organizational Design Consultant
Rebalancing a control system is an organizational-design problem: aligning beliefs, boundaries, and dialogue to strategy. You build the consulting muscle of turning evidenced diagnosis into specific, feasible interventions a client could trial.
